This Quick Byte shows how to use the Parallax P2 RTC (Real Time Clock and Calendar) module in your projects. The example code includes SPIN2 code drivers that implement calibration, battery control, date & time setting, weekday & leap-year calculation and a number of convenient display formatting features.
The P2 RTC module adds reliable and accurate time functions to your project, and is critical for many products including those with user interfaces, logging, event & timer based features and file systems.
Especially important for battery-powered and offline systems, the P2 RTC module will keep accurate time with very low power requirements; less than 200 µA during serial communications and down to 150 nA whilst idle and sleeping
