We have a significant new educational tutorial series underway for the cyber:bot!
Since June, we’ve been working with our partner cyber.org and our new team member Blake Conner to develop the block coding environment in the micro:bit’s native programming system of Microsoft Makecode.
By the end of December, Parallax customers will be able to follow our new “Programming the cyber:bot with Makecode” tutorials, programming the cyber:bot with blocks. The Parallax project includes the entire cyber:bot robot tutorial series (including the projects for QTI Line Follower, Infrared Remote Control, and the Ping))) Ultrasonic Sensor) and most of the cybersecurity tutorials. We are still making decisions about how to handle terminal-based tutorials, but the progress is ahead of our planned schedule.
The Makecode block programming environment will allow the cyber:bot to be used in 5th and 6th grade, and provide an early bridge to the Python scripting environment, too.
We welcome early users to start using the project files. Contact me at kgracey@parallax.com and I’ll send them over to you as they exist at present. Tutorials will begin to be visible by the end of October.
