My name is Andrew Osterhaus. I am an engineering and mechatronics teacher at Alliance Marine Innovation and Technology. I started teaching with the BASIC Stamp, after attending one of the Parallax trainings about 15 years ago. I currently teach three sections of a mechatronics class offered to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. We just got our course University of California course approved as a D elective. We are working on a UC honors course curriculum. This would provide students with a GPA boost like an AP class. We use the Propeller Activity Board and BlocklyProp as our microcontroller. In the first semester, the students work on small build projects learning how to program, wire and use tools. The second semester is mostly an open-ended Capstone project. Students work in teams of 2-3 on these projects. Above I’m showing this year’s projects, which include a Braille Robot, Roxanne Wolf, Object Sensing Robot, and Bipedal Robot.

We are having a symposium this Friday. I will be giving a small presentation on our program followed by a tour of this year’s projects. I know this is late notice, but you and any of your team are invited to attend. I just received the newsletter this morning and thought I should let your guys know about our program. Here is a link to the flyer about our symposium this Friday

I have really enjoyed using the Parallax products throughout the years!

Thanks for your time!
