Propeller Activity Board WX and FLiP Multicore Module: Two Popular Starter Options for the P1 (P8X32A)

Table of Contents

A customer recently wrote to me “there is so much focus on the Propeller 2, but the Propeller 1 (P1) does everything I need in a microcontroller” which reminded me the P1 is the best starter hardware in Parallax’s Propeller Multicore Microcontrollers. Between the P1 and P2, the P1 is used in larger volumes. There are reasons for this success: a longer existence, a simpler and well-documented feature set, lower cost, and wide programming language support. The P1 is programmable in Spin/PASM, C, BASIC, and BlocklyProp. It’s also easier to learn.

For P1 boards, there are two choices. My personal preference is the Propeller Activity Board WX, at least when it fits into my project enclosures. The Propeller Activity Board WX is faster to build projects because the board has all popular I/O accessories I often use, pre-routed on the PCB. The FLiP Multicore Module is the product our customers use in volume. The FLiP Multicore Module is used in drone pollination systems, cable-controlled sky cameras for sporting events, remote telemetry equipment, robotic farming, and CNC controllers. All of these applications require simultaneous control of motors and high-speed sensor interfacing. There’s also a $10 prototype board for the FLiP which makes it more like a Propeller Activity Board WX. Get a board here:
