Cybersecurity Curriculum Released!
We’ve released a new cybersecurity curriculum for middle school, high school and university levels. Students learn in a simple step-wise manner by modifying and writing their own Python scripts from our examples in a fun and engaging way. The curriculum is over 200 pages and requires 40-80 hours to complete, based on student age and experience.
No matter what fields students pursue in coding and cybersecurity, they will likely encounter electronic devices that communicate through the Internet or with other networked devices. This could be shop or lab equipment, consumer products, environmental sensors, habitat control, or even art installations. As all are potential cyberattack targets, cybersecurity should be treated as an essential component of technology literacy.
Developed in partnership with cyber.org, this curriculum and the cyber:bot robot builds transferable skills and cybersecurity awareness into any STEM program.
Hardware Requirements
The cybersecurity curriculum is easy to implement. You’ll be surprised what can be accomplished with less than twenty dollars of hardware. All you need is:
- (1) micro:bit module from the GO or CLUB versions (two modules needed for the wireless communication tutorials); or
- (optional) a cyber:bot robot kit for the advanced tutorials, which apply the wireless control curriculum to robotics as shown below.
If you need micro:bits, the best way to get them is to request a quote from us. We will process your order the minute we have them back in stock. Or, buy a cyber:bot since we reserve micro:bit inventory for these kits. We’re an approved partner of the Micro:bit Educational Foundation.
Assessment Materials Available
Educators may request the assessment material by e-mail to learn@parallax.com. In your e-mail, provide some proof of your educator status. A link to your school web site or your program will usually suffice for your proof of identity.
Educator Workshop Videos
We just completed an Educator’s Workshop series where we trained over 70 instructors. We posted the videos for instructors who want to start using the series but were unable to take our course. Below you will find the three videos, in sequence. You could watch these videos to train yourself or attend one of our future workshops.
The presentation slides used in the program are available for you too. Feel free to make a copy for your classroom presentations.
If you want to talk to one of our team, call the Educator Hotline and we’ll be ready to answer your questions and hear about your needs (916) 701-8625.
