You have many choices where to buy the micro:bit modules, but did you know that Parallax donates 1% of micro:bit kit revenue and 10% of cyber:bot revenue to our partner cyber.org?
Cyber.org’s purpose is to develop the nation’s students to become knowledgeable, skilled, and passionate cybersecurity professionals. Their program focuses on developing K-12 educators’ skills with a foundational and technical cybersecurity curriculum. Since many physical computing devices are also connected to the internet, Parallax’s interests overlap closely with Cyber.org. As the Internet of Things (IoT) puts more hardware online, the need to educate students on the low-level, inner workings of these devices (and how to secure them) is more important than ever.
The curriculum is free for American educators. If you’re an educator who is new to cyber.org, here are two ways to introduce yourself to what they offer:
- Register for the Cyber Education Discovery Forum in Alexandria Virginia, June 20-22, 2022 Pictures of the last in-person Cyber Education Discovery Forum before the pandemic are shown above. This is an incredibly productive, informative event!
- Access their free cybersecurity curriculum.
Together, we have also created the following Python curriculum freely available on our Learn.parallax.com website:
- cyber:bot, robotics, electronics, and programming curriculum with extensive cybersecurity examples
- What’s a Microcontroller? with Python, a foundational pre-engineering program.
We have worked hard to become the top reseller of micro:bits in the USA. Giving back to cyber.org makes us feel that our efforts are more effective. Thanks to your support, cyber.org, and our educational team this has become a reality.
