"Thank you all so much. You have no idea how wonderful you just made my day! Yesterday was such a downer (to have students discover that their cyber-bots had been damaged) and today is so much better. Thank you for taking care of my classes."
Matt Hungerford, Physics, Computer Science, AP CSA Teacher at Gilroy High School, California Tweet
Yesterday I received a message from Mr. Matt Hungerford, an educator who had experienced some vandalism in his classroom which is shared with other programs. A cyber-bot printed circuit board, a micro:bit module, and several servos had been damaged. Wires were cut and components were removed.
Since his students look forward to the robotics class, they returned with disappointment. Matt was asking about how he could repair these parts, as it can be time-consuming and difficult to navigate the purchase order process and order replacement parts.
Parallax understands the bureaucracy our educators may have to endure. More importantly, we know how it feels to have students who can’t do with their favored hands-on experience. I’ve been on both sides of this situation: as a Career Technology Education (CTE) educator who needs equipment and as a business person who serves the schools. Teachers may need many months to process a purchase order and it can take up to a year for Parallax to become a qualified supplier to a school district.
We immediately packed up a new cyber:bot and some continuous rotation servos and shipped them off to Mr. Hungerford in Gilroy, California for no cost. We are happy to match Mr. Hungerford’s effort with one of our own!
Robot on!
