Propeller 2 Quick Byte Project Board – Sharing the Concept

Table of Contents

While the Propeller 2 is still in the early adopter stages while we finish up the documentation and examples, we’re still envisioning hardware solutions to help our customers get underway. The P2 Quick Byte Project Board is shown above.

We have two purposes with this new concept design. First, we’d like to speed low-volume production uses of the P2-EC (and P2-EC32MB) in products. Sometimes, customers need to make 5-10 prototypes but don’t want to commit to a PCB design until they’ve got a working proof of concept. For these users, the P2 Quick Byte Project Board would be a bare PCB with the 80-pin socket and power jack installed — but nothing else to keep costs low.

Need the rest of the parts? We’d offer them in a bag and you could install as needed. We will be providing all of the files from this design to speed up your development. We also stock three formats of the 80-pin connector from Taiwan so you can source them from us for your own production uses.

Some of the features of the P2 Edge Quick Byte Project Board:

  • A versatile choice for fast prototypes and small production runs
  • Large Prototyping area, 21 x 30 matrix
  • All P2 I/Os accessible
  • WiFi socket for wireless programming and control capability
  • PropPlug socket for USB wired programming
  • Space for 1 or 2 mini-breadboards and surrounding 0.1” female sockets for I/O access
  • Two dual P2 accessory headers
  • Two servo style headers for sensors or servos, with voltage selection
  • On/Off control by shunt jumper or externally wired switch
  • Power to WiFi module control by shunt jumper or switched on/off by P2 I/O
  • Compatible with PowerPal 3A module for higher current projects
  • Reset button
  • Pre-soldered P2 Edge socket
  • Kit of headers and connectors available
  • VIN connector accepts barrel jack or screw terminal block

It’s just a concept now, so please tell us what you think by reply here or on the forum thread where we are discussing this project.
