Shield-Bot Robotics with Arduino Uno Three-session Educator’s Workshop October 2, 4, & 6 2023 – CLOSED

Applications are now closed for this event.

Get equipped to teach a series of lessons that introduce circuit building, mechanical assembly, and text-based Arduino programming with a durable yet affordable Shield-Bot.   The Robot Shield with Arduino is the most popular robotic kit for the Arduino, thanks to the combination of a complete curriculum with online and spiral-bound printed book options, the availability of the Arduino in education, and the support from Parallax.  Designed with high school in mind, this program adapts well to middle school and college too.

Workshop activities:

  • Get set up for programming the Arduino Uno on Windows, Mac, or Chromebook
  • Control robot motors through Arduino sketches that set servo speeds and directions
  • Assemble, calibrate, and test-drive the Shield-Bot robot
  • Connect sensor circuits and write sketches for autonomous robot navigation
  • Survey the student and educator resources for the program.

Applications are now closed:

To those accepted, we will email approvals with a link to register for the Zoom sessions, and send out a free send the Shield-Bot kit free of charge (if you don’t already have one). Notifications go out several weeks before the course. Hands-on activities will be done during the three 2-hour Zoom sessions, with homework assigned before each session. The Zoom sessions will be recorded and posted publicly to YouTube, in case you miss a session. Afterwards, an 8-hour certification of completion will be available upon request (attendance will be taken!)
