Our electronic products are used worldwide in education, robotics, research, industrial automation, and embedded control. We maintain an export compliance program that includes product classification, customer screening, destination review, and end-use evaluation to help ensure our products are exported responsibly and in accordance with U.S. law.
Every product exported from the United States is classified under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Products are assigned either:
Parallax is actively reviewing and documenting export classifications for our product catalog. For selected products, Parallax may also request an official Commodity Classification (CCATS) determination from the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) when appropriate.
Because our product catalog and export regulations continue to evolve, our classification program is an ongoing process.
The Parallax Export Compliance Review team consists of three staff who manage the assignment of ECCN. The roles are divided into Engineering, Export Compliance, and Sales Management. For each product we classify, these three people will have approved the process and outcome. Each of our staff sign the completed classification documents.
Parallax’s Engineering team verifies the product’s technical specifications, architecture, operating characteristics, and engineering description used during the classification process.
Our Export Compliance person evaluates the product against the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Commerce Control List (CCL), applicable BIS guidance, and supporting technical documentation to determine the appropriate ECCN or EAR99 classification. Export Compliance determines whether we will self-classify or use the BIS classification process. When BIS issues a CCATS, the BIS classification supersedes Parallax’s internal self-classification.
The Sales Manager verifies that the published classification accurately reflects the product being sold, confirms the correct part numbers and product descriptions, and ensures that customers receive complete and current export information when orders are being placed.
Every Parallax product exported from the United States is ultimately assigned either an ECCN or an EAR99 determination.
Because our catalog includes hundreds of products and export regulations evolve over time, Parallax prioritizes the creation and publication of Export Classification Reports based on the following factors:
Products intended primarily for educational, hobbyist, or general commercial use may also receive formal classification documentation as resources permit and customer demand warrants.
If an Export Classification Report has not yet been published for a product, customers may request its current export classification by contacting sales@parallax.com. Upon request, Parallax will provide the most current available ECCN or EAR99 determination and, when appropriate, prioritize that product for completion of a formal Export Classification Report.

Each product is assigned an ECCN or EAR99 determination through Parallax’s export classification process, but we have 150 online products. Where documentation is still being completed, an engineering review of that product is performed before shipment.

We verify that the shipment destination is permitted under current U.S. export regulations. Parallax does not ship products to destinations subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions or other export prohibitions.
