Product Description

3G Sara Click Overview:

3G SARA click is a versatile cellular network communication solution, featuring the compact 3.75G UMTS/HSPA SARA U-201 modem from u-blox.

Parallax speeds the process of Propeller 2 development through our partnership with MikroE, who has created a family of 850+ Clicks for most I/O functions you may envision. For each of the Click boards stocked by Parallax, you will find a documented Spin 2 code example on our Propeller GitHub Object Exchange. Connect your Click boards to the P2 Eval Board (#64000), and the P2 Edge Module Breadboard (#64020) or P2 Edge Mini Breakout Board (#64019) with a P2 Edge Module (#P2-EC),  using the  P2 to MikroBus Click Adapter (#64008).

This module includes a full set of options for cellular networking and communication, such as the network indication, full embedded TCP/UDP stack, HTTP and HTTPS transfer protocols, IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack support, antenna detection, jamming signal detection, and more. 3G SARA click also features the HSPA data-rates of 7.2 Mb/s (downlink) and 5.76 Mb/s (uplink), as well as the ability to maintain the voice call during the data transfer (3G). Onboard 16bit audio CODEC IC adds high-quality voice communication capability.

The SARA U-201 module is fully qualified and certified solution, that simplifies the design and cuts time to market. It is perfectly suited for a wide range of M2M applications, such as mobile Internet terminals, automatic meter reading (AMR), remote monitoring automation and control (RMAC), surveillance and security, road pricing, asset tracking, fleet management, anti-theft systems, point of sales (PoS) terminals, and similar applications which rely on a cellular network connection.

Will this work with Verizon? Can I get an SMA card from Verizon to use with this device?

Michael Mulholland

Hi William- the 3G Sara Click uses the u-blox SARA U-201 cellular network module, compatible with 3.75G UMTS/HSPA cellular networks. It requires a microSim card from your cellular provider. You’d need to ask Verizon if they offer a compatible service- they should understand those specs.

You can find more information about the 3G Sara Click module here: https://www.mikroe.com/3g-sara-click

Your local Verizon is clueless about such things. I tried! I thought Parallax may have investigated this since it IS the biggest cellular carrier in the world. Pity…

I just got this module and I bought a StraightTalk bring your own phone sim card kit. It came with three sim cards to choose from (I used the AT&T one for GSM phones) and I just went to StraightTalk.com to activate. Put in the number of the sim card and the IMEI on the module to activate service then put the chip in the module and it works. I was able to use M-Center from ublox to make sure it was working and it is! Only problem is finding code to integrate it with the propeller… There is no Spin code available for it like the description says… I set a port up with FullDuplexSerial to send a basic AT test message and get no response… I think it is setup for hardware flow control but FullDuplexSerial does not use flow control… I know flow control can be disabled but how… reading 1007 pages in the AT Manual is no helping so far…

Theseus88, you are correct that we haven’t provided Spin2 code for this module yet. This week, we’ll get a code example scheduled.
