DAQPac: Automotive Data Logger
Second Place
Designed by: Ryan David
|
DAQPac is an automotive data logger designed from the ground up for motorsports enthusiasts. It has all the features necessary for a driver to improve both their skill and vehicle performance. DAQPac was the result of two prior prototypes, each one evaluating the hardware for function at a reasonable cost. The end result is a well-balanced system, able to provide the features a motorsports enthusiast requires.

Sphinx
Third Place
Designed by: Michael Park
|
Sphinx is a Spin compiler that runs on the Propeller chip. It can compile complex and substantial programs (including those containing Propeller assembly language) such as the Parallax tv and graphics objects and even Sphinx itself.

Prop-Floppy
Designed by: Sal Mustafa
|
Since floppy-drives have no intelligence, I knew that I would need something with enough horsepower to encode and decode FM signals while adhering to strict-timing and control of motors, steppers and gates. The Propeller was a perfect fit. With ample signal-pins and the ability to run assembly with precision-timing, I immediately ordered the Proto Board. The memory stick datalogger allowed me to quickly gain access to flash-storage, so I added that to my shopping-cart too.

Prop RTOS
Designed by: Peter Van der Zee
|
In embedded applications one typically is required to effect numerous small activities on external devices in some time sensitive manner. This usually leads to contention for the processor’s resources as the external events tend to be asynchronous, hence unpredictable as to timing. What this then leads to is some scheme of polling external devices or alternately some interrupt method to advise the processor of the need for some specific action. The Propeller has no traditional interrupt capability, but a Cog can be suspended to WAIT for an event or for a specified period of time to pass.

Propeller Powered Rock Band Robot
Designed by: Adam Stienecker
|
Rock Band is a current popular game played on everything from iPhone to the xBox. The game is a hit among the 15-29 age group and anything associated with it automatically becomes popular. As an attempt to attract attention to my institution and with the help of a few students, I began an adventure to design and build a system that can automatically play Rock Band using the Propeller multi-core microcontroller as the control platform.

CNC Mini Mill Control System
Designed by: Ed Geckler
|
Hocking College, my employer, was gifted a CNC Mini Milling machine. As a purveyor of Knowledge I am always looking for new tools to enhance my students learning experience. The mini mill is a great way to fabricate class projects and a great control system demonstration. The only catch was that it did not have the C of CNC (no computer), nor was there any software should we some how scavenge a suitable Computer. Thoughts of designing and building my own system began to take shape.

XM Satellite Tracking
Designed by: Thomas P. Sullivan
|
The purpose of this project is to use a Parallax Propeller to improve the reception of the XM satellite radio from a moving vehicle. The assumption, backed up by some evidence, is that the patch antennas used for satellite radio are operating at reduced efficiency. Most antennas operate best in a particular direction. For the patch antennas, the best signal would likely be received perpendicular to the top surface of the patch which would occur when the satellite is directly overhead.

PropEtcher
Designed by: Michael Park
|
PropEtcher is a Propeller-based system for drawing on an Etch-a-Sketch. It has a keyboard, video display, and SD card so you write and compile programs on the Propeller to generate drawings using turtle graphics. You can preview drawings before etching them. PropEtcher also has a motor to tilt the Etch-a-Sketch to erase it.
