The Parallax Robots

Scribbler 2 Robot Scribbler 2 Robot

The S2 is Parallax’s widely-anticipated Propeller-based robot. At first look the S2 appears to be a distant cousin to the original blue Scribbler (S1), but a look under the shell shows generations of electronic evolution! Some of the improvements the P8X32A multi-core microcontroller with eight processing cogs, faster motors with encoder feedback for precision movement, bright bi-color LEDs, a loud speaker, a microphone and a truly accessible hacker port! Applications such as pen-based artwork, XBee communication between robots and computers, voice synthesis, robot following and classroom competition are all possible with the S2.

The S2 robot is suitable for a whole variety of programming skills. The Scribbler robot arrives pre-programmed with eight demo modes, including light-seeking, object detection, object avoidance, line-following, and art. Place a Sharpie marker in the pen port and it will scribble as it drives. Next, use the Graphical User Interface (S2 GUI) tile-based programming tools, or modify the Propeller source code in our BASIC-like Spin language. Through the use of third-party tools you can also program the S2 on a Mac or under Linux, in PropBASIC and C (resources for these languages will follow the release).

Assembly and Programming:
The Scribbler 2 robot requires no assembly, the S2 is ready for easy programming right out of the box; much like its predecessor the S2 software includes a GUI for programming. For more experienced or adventurous users the Scribbler 2 can be programmed in .spin and its board includes a hacker port for adding additional peripherals and sensors to the S2's existing package.

Boe-Bot Robot Boe-Bot Robot

The Boe-Bot Robot is built on a high-quality brushed aluminum chassis that provides a sturdy platform for the continuous rotation servo motors and BASIC Stamp® module's Board of Education carrier board. Many mounting holes and slots may be used to add custom robotic equipment or off-the-shelf Parallax add-ons. The rear wheel is a slider ball held in place with a cotter pin. Drive wheels are molded to fit precisely on the servo spline and held in place with a small screw.

What really makes the Boe-Bot unique is the BASIC Stamp microcontroller's flexibility of programming when coupled with breadboard circuit construction. Following along in Robotics with the Boe-Bot, users quickly learn about embedded projects, from wiring and components to programming and mechanical dependencies.

Assembly and Programming:
The base Boe-Bot kit requires some assembly and programming time; we estimate that it takes most of our customers around 30 minutes to assemble, but this task should easily be accomplished in under one hour. If you are new to robotics with the Boe-Bot robot then the total time to complete the initial programming, presented in the helpful educational material, will take up to 40 hours.

The Boe-Bot is an incredibly adaptive robot with many versatile addons, featured on thousands of applications. For more information about the Boe-Bot robot please visit our information page - parallax.com/go/boebot

SumoBot Competition Kit SumoBot Competition Kit

Build and program two high-quality SumoBot® Robots designed to wrestle in the mini-sumo competition ring (#27404), included in the kit)! The electronics consists of a surface-mounted BASIC Stamp® 2 module and an array of infrared sensors to detect your opponent and the edge of the Sumo Ring. Additional components include piezospeakers, resistors, pushbuttons and LEDs to build custom breadboard circuits for program mode selection and sensor state feedback. The hardware package includes black anodized aluminum chassis and scoops, servo motors, wheels, 4AA power packs (batteries not included) mounting standoffs, and screws for two complete SumoBot robots.

Assembly and Programming:
Before you can start battling away with the SumoBot robots they do require some assembly and programming; a single SumoBot robot can be assembled in 30 minutes, assembling the set should take up to an hour and a half. If you are new to robotics with the SumoBot robot then the total time to complete the initial programming, presented in the helpful educational material, will take up to 40 hours in total.

We also sell SumoBot Robot kits that are not "Competition Kits", it is a single SumoBot Robot with manual.

ELEV-8 Quadcopter Elev-8 Quadcopter

The ELEV-8 Quadcopter Kit is the first flying robotic platform by Parallax. Its unique design and electronics make it an ideal aerial platform. The main control board that monitors and controls flight stability is completely open source. Use the preinstalled firmware from HoverFly, or for the most flexibility, customize and upload your own flight control code to add new sensors, like the GPS, compass, or altimeter to increase the capabilities of the ELEV-8 Quadcopter Kit. There is also room for up to 2 pounds of payload! Add a camera system, attached with an AV transmitter and start flying FPV (First Person View), or just use the camera for stunning aerial video and photos.

Assembly and Programming:
The ELEV-8 Quadcopter Kit requires up to 8 hours of assembly. Parallax provides many resources to help guide the assembly process including documentation, drawings and how-to-videos on the ELEV-8 product page. Please review the documentation and ELEV-8 Quadcopter Kit product page for a list of tools needed for assembly. Programming can be done using Parallax's Propeller Tool to program the Propeller microcontroller or by using the HoverFly installation client to update firmware or change flying methods.

Visit the ELEV-8 Quadcopter product page for more information.

Eddie Robot Platform Eddie Robot Platform

The Eddie Robot Platform delves into the world of PC-based robotics, and is the first reference design platform compatible with Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 4. Eddie is a dynamic robotic development platform, using sensor fusion to integrate with the Microsoft Kinect's 3D vision, color imaging and sound processing for easy interaction with virtually any environment. The Eddie Control Board features the multicore Propeller microcontroller and is fully hackable, making it easy to add additional sensors and accessories.

Assembly and Programming:
Eddie is provided in kit form, allowing for more secure shipping and lower prices. Assembly time is approximately 4-6 hours. If you would like to purchase a pre-assembled version of Eddie, please contact our sales department for more information. Eddie is intended to be programmed using Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 4 in order to utilize the features of the Microsoft Kinect, with services available from Microsoft.

Please visit the Eddie Platform page for more information.
