The BASIC Stamp® 2pe module is ideal for those who have BS2p programming experience and are designing a battery-powered or data-logging application. The BS2pe has all the PBASIC commands of the BS2p24 and BS2p40 (LCD, I2C, 1-Wire, Polled Interrupts) but has two key features that make it unique.
- EEPROM is 32K (16 K for program) which is twice the EEPROM of the BS2p24 or BS2p40
- Extremely low power consumption. Current draw is 15 mA Run / 36 µA Sleep vs. 40 mA Run / 350 µA Sleep (BS2p24, BS2p40)
It's important to note that the BS2pe has a program execution speed of 6,000 instructions/second compared to the BS2p24 and BS2p40 at 12,000 instructions/second. Essentially, you're reducing the program execution speed in return for significantly more memory (EEPROM) and power efficiency. When evaluating which BASIC Stamp module is best suited for your needs, you will want to keep that in mind.
The wake up interval for the BS2pe is less than one millisecond, so the long term average current in SLEEP is much less. For low power or data-logging applications, this will extend battery life and increase reliability. The BS2pe is designed to be programmed in the Windows environment and is not able to be programmed with a DOS editor.
