After USASEF, Ken and I had the honor of attending a National Science Foundation workshop in order to provide industry input for their Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program. RET programs provide teachers with research opportunities in university or industry labs. The teachers then take the lessons learned during their research and integrate it into their classroom curriculum. To goal is to increase awareness in engineering careers for students in grades K-14.
We’d like to extend a special thanks to Vikram Kapila for extending the invitation. The 1.5-day workshop gave us great insight into the training needs for teachers in order to succeed in the classroom.
As we are wont to do at these types of affairs, we gave a brief presentation and sat on a panel discussion on ways for industry to support the RET program. Here we were excited to garner excitement about our drone education program. Now, more than ever, we are certain that this curriculum is something we need to develop. Because, I mean, really, flying robots are the coolest.
We thank RET and the NSF again for allowing us to attend the workshop, and look forward to hosting any teachers for in-office teacher residences here at Parallax!
