This product is the Serial Inkjet Printer Board only. If you’re just getting started with printing, we suggest you take a look at the Parallax Serial Inkjet Printer Kit (#27949), which, in addition to the Serial Inkjet Printer Board shown on this page, also includes the Inkjet Applications book from Matt Gilliland (#70017), inkjet cartridges, carriage assemblies, and Boe-Bot mounting hardware for just $99.95.
OEMs, HP print technology partners, customers needing to solve a print problem several times, or the budgeted hobbyist may want to purchase the Serial Inkjet Printer Board by itself.
The Serial Inkjet Printer accepts a microcontroller (TTL) or PC (USB mini B) signal to print 1/8” tall 96 dpi characters. It’s as easy as waving the inkjet print cartridge 1/16” to 1/8” over a piece of paper at a constant rate (this particular technology is very forgiving). The hardware converts a string of serial commands (text to print, feed rate) into parallel I/O nozzle firing in the proper timed sequence. Additionally, the board holds user-defined characters which may be loaded by BASIC Stamp or USB.
This design is 100% open-sourced for OEMs, hassle free without the helpful intervention of lawyers and agreements! That’s right – we’ll hand you our firmware (SX/B format), schematic, Bill of Materials (BOM) and design tips for your own printer project. Everything designers need is in the documentation.
