All BS1-IC's are Industrial-Rated. We manufacture all BS1-IC modules to meet industrial-rated standards with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (-40°F-+185°F). By adding the BS1 Serial Adapter (#27111) you'll be able to program the BS1-IC in the Windows environment using the most recent BASIC Stamp® Windows Editor on the software downloads page of this web site. And it's amazing what you can accomplish with this well-proven microcontroller. The processor runs at 4MHz which helps make the module very efficient in terms of current draw and source/sink. The program execution speed is ~2,000 instructions/second and the RAM size is 16 bytes (2 I/O, 14 variable).
The BS1-IC is recommended for customers that have experience programming the BS2-IC. Even though it seems natural to start learning with the BS1 and then move onward, we highly recommend that new customers begin with the Basic Stamp 2 Module (# BS2-IC). This is because of the breadth of educational materials and support for the BS2. Then it's easy to branch off to the BS1-IC or other BS2 series modules based on project specifications. Four attributes are listed below which are unique to the BS1-IC.
Find the perfect fit - The BS1-IC is often an ideal fit for applications that don't require the speed and memory capabilities of our 24-pin BASIC Stamp 2 series. And due to the fact that modules cost less than $20 in large quantities, it's a strong candidate for high volume applications.
When size is an issue - Projects with restricted space and/or difficult access may benefit by the small size of the module (1.4"x.6"x.1").
Build a BASIC Stamp 1 OEM: If you would like to build a BASIC Stamp onto your own PCB, you'll be interested to know that the BS1-IC’s interpreter chip format is the most popular OEM solution that we provide.
